Ruby on Rails and Mobile Web (WAP) Development References

I’ve had the idea to create a simple tutorial about how to get started in WAP building and mobile web site development.  In terms of developing such sites I also think that Ruby on Rails is a siiick language that can help you get going with it rather quickly - for this tutorial, I’ll just list some references, but expect more soon!

Some quick resources, and must-haves -

  •  wURFL - this website contains detailed handset information for hundreds of phones in XML format - screen size, feature set, cookie support, and more
  • is_mobile? - great Method that can be used for many nifty things (Michael Behan)
These aren’t Rails specific -
  • DeviceAnywhere - I swear I think this company should be acquired for the sort of service they provide with real handsets over the internet
  • Ready.Mobi - Emulation but its quick and dirty for seeing what is going on with your mobile WAP site - also pay attention to the WAP Compliance
